Henkel recently hosted its sixth annual Henkel Fore A Cause customer appreciation golf outing and charity event. Through registration fees, partner sponsorships and raffle tickets, Henkel’s 2010 event raised $45,000 for Cornerstone Schools, a Detroit charter school dedicated to the excellence of its students in grades Pre-K-8.

Since 2006, American Le Mans Series race car driver and former marine Jason Carter has hosted nearly 500 severely wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghan wars and their family members at American Le Mans Series racing events.  During the 2010-2011 race season, Henkel Corporation and the Loctite® brand have joined this effort, committing as a title sponsor of Carter’s Racing For Our Heroes program.

Fungi, yeasts and bacteria – for some they may sound like a list of the most feared of pathogens, but for others they constitute living mini-factories capable of producing substances such as enzymes, citric acid and biosurfactants. “White Biotechnology” is the scientific term for industrial-scale production of substances with micro-organisms in closed systems. Recognized for its ease of use and cost-effectiveness with die attach processes for leadframe packages, Henkel has extended its Wafer Backside Coating (WBC) portfolio to also include a solution for stacked die packages.  Ablestik WBC-8901UV has been designed to address the demanding requirements of multiple die stack applications for the memory market segment, including packages such as TSOPs, MCPs and FMCs (Flash Memory Cards).

Henkel’s non-conductive paste (NCP) solutions have long enjoyed a leading market position for traditional Gold – Gold flip chip processes. Recent NCP innovations from the global materials leader are also now enabling next-generation, high I/O fine-pitch technologies including new copper pillar (Cu Pillar) interconnects.

To reduce distortion of FRP panels exposed to direct sunlight, Henkel Corporation has introduced a new urethane hot melt adhesive formulated to withstand high temperatures in excess of 200°F.  Highly-durable Purmelt® R-200F+ improves distortion resistance up to five times longer than traditional polyurethane adhesives, and allows manufacturers to use dark graphics and full-body paint on sidewall designs.

Henkel’s 2009 Corporate Report, comprising its annual report and its sustainability report, counts among the best in the world, according to a ranking of the 100 best corporate reports recently presented by the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP). With a score of 99 out of 100, Henkel’s Corporate Report gained the highest recognition and received a platinum award in this year’s LACP Vision Awards annual report competition. The Board of Trustees for Sustainability at Arizona State University (ASU) met with international experts from industry, the sciences and political leaders for a sustainability conference at Henkel’s global headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany from June 30 to July 2. The topics discussed ranged from the role of multinational companies and political programs to sustainability science in higher education. In North America, Henkel markets a wide range of consumer and industrial brands including Dial® soaps, Purex® laundry detergents, and Loctite® adhesives.

In recognition of his outstanding doctorate thesis investigating the physico-chemical properties of foams, Dr. Enda Carey of Ireland received from Henkel the “Laundry and Home Care Research Award” conferred by the company for the first time, carrying a monetary prize of  3,000 euros.

As part of their commitment to the community, volunteers from the Adhesive Technologies group of Henkel Corporation recently planted seedlings at Duke Farms and hosted a birthday party at the Adult Day Center.

Henkel is again the proud recipient of the Walmart Sustainability Award. At the retailer’s vendor meeting in Bentonville, Arkansas at the beginning of June, Henkel was recognized as the global supplier that has made the biggest contribution to sustainability.

Henkel Corporation received a 2010 Automotive News PACE Environmental Award for its Aquence® Co-Cure coating process, at an awards ceremony on June 16 in Novi, Mich. As a 2010 PACE Award winner for innovation, Henkel was also selected for this prestigious environmental award which recognizes automotive suppliers for their innovations that contribute to environmental sustainability. Henkel Corporation has introduced Loctite® 263™ Threadlocker, a high-strength, single-component anaerobic threadlocker designed to permanently lock and seal threaded fasteners up to one-inch in diameter.  For use in a wide range of heavy-duty industrial applications, this high-viscosity, primerless, red threadlocker cures on fasteners treated with thread lubricants and anti-corrosion/protection fluids without cleaning.

Angela E. Curley, Manager of Corporate Diversity and Inclusion at Henkel, has been honored as the first corporate executive recipient of the Positively Powerful Women Award.  Curley was recognized for her work on Henkel’s diversity initiatives and her leadership reflected in her board memberships of non-profit organizations.  The award was presented at a luncheon on May 21 at the Phoenix Ritz-Carlton.

Henkel Consumer Goods Inc. and Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) have collaborated to create the Henkel Co-Op Program for math and science students.  The program kicked off this semester with six students from PVCC interning in the research and development department of Henkel’s North American consumer products headquarters in Scottsdale.  Henkel manufactures such well-known brands as Dial® soaps, Purex® laundry detergents, and Right Guard® antiperspirants.

Delivering a robust alternative to high-temperature solder processes, Henkel has developed Hysol ECCOBOND CA3556HF, a silver-filled electrically conductive adhesive designed to offer fast cure at low temperature.  The material is ideal for high-throughput production processes and applications that dictate high peel strength, such as the assembly of photovoltaic (PV) modules, automotive sensors and membrane switches that incorporate temperature-sensitive substrates.

Henkel Corporation has introduced Frekote® Aqualine® RS-100™, a water-based sealer designed to seal micro-porosity in steel and chrome-plated molds.  This clear liquid product provides an excellent base coat and significantly increases mold release capacity.

Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ laundry sheets from Henkel received a Gold Award at the Edison Best New Product Awards presented by the Discovery Channel on April 29 in New York.  Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ laundry sheets were honored in the Consumer Packaged Goods Household Segment category.  The Edison Awards recognize new and innovative products in 11 categories in the spirit of Thomas Alva Edison, America’s greatest inventor and innovator.

Henkel Consumer Goods Inc. is teaming up with Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA) to launch “Shower Power,” a mobile shower trailer that will provide free showers to homeless community members. The Shower Power trailer will be unveiled on Tuesday, May 4 at 5:00 p.m. at Grace Community Church, 1200 E. Southern Ave. in Tempe.

The inventor of anaerobic adhesive technology —  Henkel Corporation — has introduced the newest innovation in anaerobic threadlockers: Loctite® QuickTape™ 249™ Threadlocker Tape.  Dry to the touch and packaged in a convenient 260-inch roll, this medium-strength tape threadlocker provides the same reliable performance of liquid threadlockers yet can be carried in a pocket or toolbox.  This tape can also be pre-applied to fasteners for future assembly.

On Saturday, May 1, a group of 25 volunteers from Henkel Corporation will roll up their sleeves and grab their paintbrushes, hammers, and power tools to make repairs to the home of a family in need as part of the AmeriCares HomeFront program.  The volunteers will be replacing windows and doors, painting, and doing yard work and landscaping at the home located at 176 Sisson Street in East Hartford.  In addition to the volunteer support, Henkel has made a $7,000 donation to AmeriCares for the purchase of materials and supplies for the project.

Henkel Corporation introduces P3® Rodine® 2010, a new low toxicity cleaning inhibitor. This new, patent-pending product minimizes base metal dissolution during cleaning operations and improves scale removal efficiency. P3® Rodine® 2010 is gentle enough to be used with the most delicate of machines because it also prevents pitting corrosion of metal surfaces such as stainless steels and Monel® alloys.

Henkel Corporation has introduced two new Loctite® threadlockers formulated to withstand consistent operating temperatures up to 360°F.   Curing consistently and thoroughly without cleaning, these new products tolerate the oils and lubricants typically found on “as received” threaded fasteners. These products will also cure on plated, aluminum, stainless and chromated fasteners without primers.

Henkel Corporation has introduced the Loctite® LED Flood System, a   self-contained, air-cooled assembly designed to cure Loctite® UV/Visible cure adhesives.  The system delivers a curing area of 100 x 100 mm at intensities of up to 600 mW/cm2, depending on the wavelength selected.  Unlike traditional arc lamps, this LED system has a significantly longer life, negligible intensity decay, and no infrared emissions that can overheat parts.

Henkel Corporation, a technology leader in adhesives and coatings for flexible packaging, announces the latest advance in solventless laminating adhesive: Liofol® LA7724-21 with UR6020 Hardener. 

Henkel Corporation teamed with metro-Detroit schools, Marian and Brother Rice High Schools in their collection efforts for the survivors of the Haiti earthquake. In their efforts, students and Henkel employees collected 2,000 pounds of supplies, including items such as baby products, water, non-perishable foods and medical supplies. Henkel covered the cost of shipping the items which will be sent to and distributed by the charitable organization Project Haiti.

Henkel Consumer Goods Canada will showcase its innovative new Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ laundry sheets at the National Home Show at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto from February 19-28, 2010.   Purex is also the online ticket discount sponsor for the home show and is offering visitors the opportunity to save $3 off adult admission by buying their tickets online.

Henkel presented the Fritz Henkel Award for Innovation today to three groundbreaking products: Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets, Essential Color and Essensity hair coloring, and Technomelt Supra and Coolmelt packaging adhesives.  The award, which has been presented annually since 1982, is named after Henkel’s founder and is given to projects that represent a high degree of innovation and proven success in the market.

Thunderbird School of Global Management and Henkel Consumer Goods Inc., are teaming up in “Innovation & Creativity,” a new Spring 2010 course that provides a blended opportunity for Thunderbird students to learn innovation and adaptability concepts in a fast-changing environment via business industry guest speakers, case studies, benchmarking and a real-world capstone project for Henkel’s laundry care business unit. At the 2010 Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) Annual Meeting and Industry Convention, January 26 – 30, in Orlando, Florida, Henkel Laundry & Home Care awarded two prizes. The “Best Innovation Contributor 2009” went to Cognis for the best contribution of an external partner delivering outstanding consumer-relevant innovation. The “Best Supply Performance 2009” was conferred to Sasol for its outstanding operational supply performance.

Henkel Corporation’s Industrial Adhesives business sponsored the company’s first Sustainable Supplier Symposium on January 21, 2010.  Designed to “spark the seeds of sustainable innovation” among members of Henkel’s product development team, the symposium featured meetings and exhibits by a select group of suppliers who pursue sustainability in creative, innovative ways. 

Henkel Consumer Goods Inc. will host the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Career Connections Network at its Scottsdale headquarters on January 13-14, 2010.  The meeting will bring together 40 human resources professionals from SIFE partner companies for workshops and panel discussions on recruiting college students through the SIFE program.

For use on threaded stainless steel pipes and fittings found in high temperature environments such as nuclear facilities, Henkel Corporation has introduced Loctite® 5802™ PST® High Purity Thread Sealant.   Formulated to meet nuclear green limit requirements, this product is low in impurities such as halogens, sulfur and low-melting-point metals which can be harmful to metal pipes. 

Sustainability is fundamental to Henkel’s business DNA. However, affirmation of this through specific forms of recognition from industrial and retail customers is as important as it is gratifying. Three times in 2009, Henkel’s ‘Year of the Customer,’ major international business partners awarded the company for special contributions made to their own efforts in the sustainability domain.

Henkel helped make the holiday season a bit brighter for the children of the Village for Families & Children, Inc., a Hartford-based non-profit human services agency. Henkel, headquartered in Rocky Hill, Conn., purchased new coats, hats, and mittens for 45 children of the Village. Henkel also gave each child a toy and provided the food for the Village’s December 18 holiday party.
