BAY POINT, Calif., May 20, 2008 – The aerospace group of Henkel recently increased manufacturing capacity at its Bay Point, Calif. facility. Increased build rates and the shift to composites in commercial aircraft has provided the need to increase both capacity and capability in Bay Point’s operations. This is the second in a series of three major additions aimed at strengthening service to customers and increasing capabilities in the aerospace structural adhesives market.
During phase one, an SAP-based ERP system was implemented to streamline production planning and supply chain management. Additional mixing and blending equipment also was added to increase production capabilities for films and pastes.
Phase two of the additions, already underway, focus on the following:
- Lean manufacturing to increase operational effeciency and material flow through the facility
- Capital equipment upgrades including investments in additional filming equipment and controls
This additional capacity will enable Henkel to increase operational efficiency, reduce lead times, improve on-time delivery and to be more responsive to industry growth trends.
Henkel is committed to the aerospace industry and has invested in product development, global sales support and facility expansion to become the premier supplier of aerospace adhesives and surface treatments,” said Randy Clement, Henkel North America operations vice president. “In particular, the growth in composites usage in commercial and military aircraft has increased the need for many Henkel products used in composite assembly including adhesives, resins, liquid shims, mold releases, peel plies and composite surfacing films.”
