Henkel PURBOND® HB E452 and PURBOND® HB E032 are the world’s first and only polyurethane adhesives to pass all tests required for ANSI/AITC 405-2008 certification, the glulam standard. As a result, architects and builders can reap the process, economic, and sustainable benefits of a one-component, polyurethane adhesive.
Created through a joint venture between Collano and Henkel, PURBOND® adhesives offers significant advantages over traditional formaldehyde-based alternatives:
• Engineered open times 3-45 minutes – non coating-weight dependent;
• Engineered set time 8-112 minutes – cold set;
• One-component system requiring no mixing;
• Less adhesive required per square foot, up to 2/3 lower dosage;
• 100% solids content, with no formaldehyde or solvents;
• No odors, promoting a healthy work environment;
• Supports sustainability goals, earns ½ LEED point;
• No visible bond lines for an excellent appearance;
• Ductile bond line alleviates potential of adhesive-related stress cracks;
• Extremely high process reliability, unique temperature and moisture tolerance;
• Can bond high moisture-content wood
• Excellent bond strength and reliability;
• Less wear on milling tools, prolonged tool life.
To achieve ANSI/AITC 405-2008 certification, Henkel PURBOND® HB E452 and PURBOND® HB E032 passed the following ASTM tests:
• D2559 – Structural Load Bearing Standard – Exterior (Wet Use) Exposure (tests shear strength and de-lamination resistance)
• D3434 – Boil and dry test (800 cycles)
• D3535 – Creep stress test
• D1183 – Salt water soak test
• D1151 – Frozen water soak test
• CSA 01129 – Hot static creep test
• D7247 – High temperature test

Purbond is a joint venture between Collano, a Swiss company, and HENKEL KGaA. The two major international adhesives industry players created a Center of Competence to leverage the potential of PUR adhesives technologies for the engineered wood market on a worldwide basis. Its key activities, managed and coordinated in Sempach-Station, Switzerland, are global development, application technologies, and marketing. In 1994, Germany was the first country to approve the use of a 1C PUR adhesive (PURBOND HB 110) for bonding engineered wood components pursuant to DIN 1052. Thanks to its many years of experience, Purbond has established itself as a specialist and leader in this domain. With innovative, high-quality products and world-class technical support, Purbond is the ideal partner for companies that manufacture structural wood elements with moisture-curing liquid polyurethane adhesives.
